S1: E6 Not One More

NOT ONE MORE

On June, 4th 2020, I attended a peaceful Community Walk for Justice in my hometown of Wilmington, MA. Former classmates created the event, as well as presented powerful speeches. I was so moved by the words that were said, as well as the ones that weren't during the moments of silence we had.

Personally, I have been having a hard time finding where I can speak out and make more of a difference in this movement. I have made donations, marched, shared sources on social media, signed petitions, and supported black-owned bookstores across the country by purchasing books to further educate myself. But there is so much more to be done.

Just two days after the walk, I stumbled across my watercolor sketchbook from my senior year of college. I had done some hand studies and the picture below is one of them. Who knew 6 years later, this piece would be so much more than just a sketch.

It honestly stunned me at how powerful it was to come across it in this moment of time. I was never good at watercolor, so I did not think much of it back then, but now I saw it in a whole new perspective. I decided to create a multimedia piece and add the design of 3 simple words that resonated with me from the walk; Not one more.

I am looking into making stickers and having the proceeds go to those organizations that still need support during this time. Through art I am able to find that voice I was looking to speak out with. We all have different voices and we must use them to continue to march in this movement so it does not just become a moment.
