S2: E4 Mindful M&Ms
For Christmas I received a deck of "30 Days of Mindfulness" cards and I decided to start them this month. I will confess, I haven't been able to complete every card, but I am not putting pressure into it. It has been very interesting to slow down and do things I had never even thought about in depth. We are so use to having routines in life, that it is actually nice to be more mindful for a change.
Some cards are as simple as really listening to a song you have never heard of, concentrate on the act of brushing your teeth, stare at a candle flame for 10 straight minutes, practice waiting, or even taking just one breath and see how it feels. Other cards state watching a sunrise/sunset, watching a movie and paying closer attention to it, take time to walk slowly, speak a love letter to yourself into your phone and listen back, or even reach out to someone you haven't talked to in a while and thank them.
One of the cards this week involved M&Ms and I wanted to share with you so you could try it too! So, grab a bag and follow below:
For every red one say one thing that makes you happy.
For every blue one say one thing that makes you sad.
For every green one say one thing that makes you angry.
For every yellow one say one thing that makes you excited.
For every brown one say one poor choice you made today and what you could have done differently.
For every orange one say one good choice you made today.
When I did this, I grabbed a color at random and made my corresponding statement out loud. Then I would eat the M&M and write down what I had said. You don't have to write it down, but for me, doing this felt like a type of journal/gratitude practice, as well as solidified it. Next time I try this, I can look back at what I wrote down and compare how my feelings have changed.
I encourage you to carve just a few minutes out of your busy day to play The M&M Game. Honestly, this made eating M&Ms more fun, and much more mindful!

My dear, I LOVE this mindfulness exercise and I know I'm gonna got out and buy some m and ms and proceed to eat the entire bag all at once. 😁 When it comes to chocolate, I have no mindfulness. But, I love that you had that control.
