S2: E5 Say Thanks!
Saying "thank you" is such a simple task that means so much. Personally, I try to say it as often as possible. Especially to wait staff at restaurants, even more so now that we are in a pandemic, as well as any and all essential workers currently working harder to help others. But also to the person holding the door for me, the person in the car who lets me take the turn into the road, the mailman for delivering my mail, and the cashier who looks like they may need a smile.
When someone thanks me, it makes me feel appreciated or that I said or did something helpful. So I want to make sure I do the same for everyone else. Pay attention the next time you thank a friend, or even a stranger, and see how they react. In this day and age, I feel like we get distracted by the instant gratification and forget to take the moment to say "thank you." But just those two words alone can make a huge difference.
There are times where I am better writing out my feelings rather than speaking them aloud. This past month I have had many things to be thankful and grateful for. Since I am not able to see friends or family in person as much as I would like, I took out the old pen and paper to write out thank you cards! Because who doesn't like to get mail?! I took it to the next step this time around though and actually DESIGNED my own card!
When I get a new printer (which will hopefully be soon, right after I get a new laptop...) I would love to make more of my own cards and add them to my Etsy shop! There are a few friends I keep up with through letter writing and I absolutely love it. Social media definitely is a quick and easy way of knowing what's going on, but when you send a card it makes it more fun and personal.
This Sunday, February 7th is National Send a Card to a Friend Day! So go out and buy one or grab some markers and make one! Either way, the recipient will be so excited to see something other than a bill in their mailbox next week! They will probably thank you for it and send one back your way!
It's easy to thank others, but we must also remember to thank ourselves. Thank our bodies for getting us around. Our lungs for breathing without us even thinking about it. Our mind for pushing through hard moments when we want to give up. Thanking ourselves in general just for taking it day by day and making it day by day.
Take a moment, or many moments, to stop and say thanks!
