S2: E7 The Evidence Bag
We as humans automatically trust many things.
We trust that we will wake up each morning for a new day
That our bodies will be healthy and work the way we need them to
That the tv will turn on when we press power
That we will have electricity in our homes
That water will come out of the faucet
That our cars will start and get us to work
...and that our license plates will be on our cars.
You wouldn't think you need to check to see if your plates are on your car, but I'm here to tell you that you might want to.
Last week my front license plate was stolen. It either happened while I was at work or during my brief visit at Target. I reported it as soon as I noticed it was gone, and in 24 hours the police called to tell me my plate was used to commit a crime and they had it. I am so grateful to have it back and that I didn't have to get new numbers. Mine is not a vanity plate, but it is a combo of my birthday numbers and my initials. So to think it was out there alone in the world was so sad!
This whole situation frustrated me and made me think of what a cruel world we live in. But I was reminded by a friend that it is not a cruel world, just a cruel person who did this. No matter how nice you are, these things can happen to absolutely anyone. I was the unlucky victim this time, and I just hope no one else has to go through it.
Now I have my souvenir evidence bag, which held my plate and just one screw, that I will keep to remember this wild ride.
