S3: E4 Let's Talk Resolutions

Hey! It's been a while! It's a new year AND I'm 30 now! (That will be another blog 😉) A lot has gone on since my last entry and now January is already almost over. Time moves so fast these days. Even though it's the end of the month, let's talk resolutions.

Do you make any? Do you usually? What do you think of when you hear the word 'resolutions'? I think most people feel a lot of pressure and expectations, or just give up before January is over. When you can honestly work on these at any time, in my opinion. I try to make a list each year, but I consider them more as goals for myself. This time I decided to write 10 things as if they had already happened.

I wanted to share them here with you and reflect on each one a little bit. I am hoping to inspire someone else out there in some way, while at the same time holding myself accountable. Here we go!

1. I talked less and listened more. Every time I talk to people (friends, family, anyone!) I walk away from the conversation feeling like I was annoying or talked too much. I love sharing stories and making people laugh, but when is too much too much?? Also, I know it is important to just listen sometimes. When I told someone about this resolution recently though they responded with, "Talking less should never be a resolution… the world needs talkers and story tellers!" So now I may have to rethink this one!

2. I documented moments in videos. Not that I should do what everyone else is doing, but it seems like people are taking more videos than pictures to share. This is nice in a way because you can actually see moments unfold as opposed to just be a frozen moment in time. So far throughout the month I have tried to capture little things I wouldn't normally with the photo feature of my camera.

3. I lost 30 pounds. Everyone usually has a weight related resolution and signs up for the gym on January 1st. I certainly did not do that, but I have gained significant weight in the past year since having a sit-down office job. It is something I can physically feel and makes me uncomfortable so making a goal doesn't hurt!

4. I created my own magic. While, working at the Disney Store for 6 years I created a lot of magic for others, both guests and my fellow cast, and it was just the best feeling. Just because the physical store is gone, doesn't meant the magic is gone, too - it still lives on in different ways. It's important to also create magic for myself though! I want to make things happen this year.

5. I am confident in myself. I can already feel this one brewing! I don't know how or why and I don't even know how to explain it. I am proud of myself though and can't wait to see where this one takes me.

6. I took better care of my body. This is obviously closely related to #3, but I wanted to separate it because it means more than losing weight. It's about eating better, moving more, thinking about it and talking about it more positively, and just all around mentally. Our bodies are a temple that we are lucky to live in each and every single day. We take care of our living spaces, so we must do the same with our bodies.

7. I decluttered my social media / physical spaces. We have all been sucked into the social media worlds. It's all about how many 'likes' you get or how many followers you have. Yet, it should truly be about quality not quantity. What is the point of following people you aren't friends with or don't enjoy their content? The same applies with our physical space. One day we won't be here any more and we don't get buried with all our STUFF so why clutter it up while we are here?

8. I said YES more. I tend to get "pre-stressed" and nervous about things, and eventually talk myself out of it and then have FOMO. 99% of the time when I do push myself to do something, I am so grateful I did. Therefore, I will say YES more and enjoy rather than being hesitant.

9. I drank 2 - 3 bottles of water. Once again, a health related one and probably a funny one since if you know me, you know I pretty much exclusively drink water. In the past year though I have fallen a little behind on it. I always have water with me wherever I go, but I don't always drink it all. So I personally want to aim to drink 2 or 3 bottles every day.

10. I love myself. This one has been a struggle for a while, but we are closer than ever to this being 100% true! No more crying behind the steering wheel or saying negative things when something goes wrong. To quote my girl Hilary Duff in her song, "Inner Strength"...
"Listen, girl, gotta know it's true
In the end, all you've got is you"

So there you have it. 2023 is MY year. I am claiming it. Manifesting it. Grateful for all the opportunities lying ahead waiting for me. Maybe these aren't all your "traditional" resolutions but they are what spoke to me as I sat down to reflect. I hope you can do the same, there are still 11 months of the year to embrace! Go out and make this your year, too! 🖤
